The Velveteen Rabbit

June 2, 2025

This post is in regards to the energy of the moment, the current Gemini season Astrology transits in relation to the book The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. Do you remember this book as a kid? Lets connect it to the stars with childhood like magic and see what it means.

Saturn together with Neptune at the very beginning of the Zodiac in Aries.

Venus in Aries with Chiron (The Wounded Healer)

Mars in Leo

all while in Gemini season.

Not only is this a book, written language, (Mercury) it’s a childhood age children's book, all of which are under the umbrella of Gemini themes.

Gemini is "Two," the Twins right?

Did you know that this book has two titles?! Its full title is:

“The Velveteen Rabbit or How Toys Become Real.”

The Velveteen Rabbit was a stuffed animal, made of velvet, was stuffed with sawdust, was worn out, imperfect, not the greatest looking toy nor did he feel or look to be the most desirable (Chiron wounds of self worth and also in regards to relationship in Aries with Venus). The rabbit wanted and wished to become real and have loving affection and attention from the boy in the story. The boy eventually becomes sick and his stuffed rabbit gets thrown into a sack destined for flames.

The rabbit's Horse friend, named the Skin Horse, because his fur was worn to the skin, was old, truthful and wise - The Horse and these themes are all Archetypal Sagittarius, Gemini’s opposite sign, it’s axis partner.

The story is about what it means to be “real.”

Becoming real here is the transformation from imagination to reality. Neptune to Saturn. Imagination to real form. The rabbit transformed from one way of being to another. Aries energy is the impulse for that and the creative act of “becoming.” "You become. It takes a long time." said the wise Skin Horse - Saturn in Aries. Neptune is also belief.

Becoming “real” is not only an animated physical real thing, but it’s also being real as your authentic self (Positive Leo trait) and accepting who you are, and showing up as such with your natural expression and being. No need to impress, be yourself. Becoming real can be uncomfortable. It takes a certain amount of courage (Mars). “When you are real, shabbiness does not matter.” says the wise elder Skin Horse.

The Velveteen Rabbit became real from a fairy that emerged out of the rabbit’s tears after the rabbit was thrown away. We can also associate tears with feeling and the emotionally, watery, planet Neptune.

The tear came from and was produced from within himself not from an outside source, he didn’t need the love or validation from the boy to recognize his “realness.” This has to do with Leo energy (we have Mars in Leo right now) of needing to do things for attention or love, it’s about being authentic, real.

The story connects with recognizing ourselves, believing in ourselves, the Journey of becoming in authentic ways, what it means to be real and recognizing our own value and our own source of love. Our own source of love - Venus and Neptune in Aries, as well as making dreams come true.

There is much more that has been said of this book that's worth being curios about to investigate on it's deeper meanings. Here is the story on-line of The Velveteen Rabbit.

Have a good Journey!
