Dec. 19/20
Here is an interpretation on the energies of this New Moon beginning at the tail end of Sagittarius season.
Shifts of adjustment in action
The Archer lays eyes on a target, pulls back that bow and tension is felt in this action. Additionally, the more tension there is, the further back the pull of the bow, the further and faster the arrow will fly. A moment pause here…taking in consideration the breeze, or if the target is moving, aiming now has to be just to the left, or just to the right, to make its landing. It’s not a head on, straight forward shot. All that’s been learned comes to this point of action, and if the Archer is well trained, none of this requires thought, it becomes a natural intuitive happening with precision. From their complete knowing, and pause in between heartbeats, the arrow is let go. From there it’s out of control of the Archer, released with trust, faith and confidence, “given” to the elements and to a target. There’s more than meets the eye when shooting an arrow. Also the Archer is a single entity, independent, with the freedom to roam and of being on their own for a task.
This not so straight path theme is similar to tacking with a sailboat using the wind and a sail when it zig zags to a destination. Sometimes a non-conventional path is the way, yet still with the eyes on a destination it gets to where it wants to go. Sometimes that destination will disappear from sight and yet you know it’s there and you are still knowing you will arrive at it. You have faith in your plotted course and your learned education put to actual use gets you there.
This New Moon energy also makes me think about protecting a match while striking it. You turn your body, or bring your hand up and adjust to protect a flame so its flame can grow, so its heat and light can grow to become MORE with some sort of fuel set-up. That flame is valuable, it has worth, protect it. Use it in action to produce more of something.
Winter solstice is December 21st. More light. Becoming more. Expand consciousness. The quest of going beyond yourself. The trans-personnel.
Outgrowing old soothing habits
It could be the things you sooth, or nurture yourself with, that you find has come for you to outgrow. Do we need to apply self-love and compassion to something that has been used like a crutch from our past that has continued to a point?
Outgrowing something means that something used to fit, was just the thing for you, and was of good use, but you grew out of that shirt and pants, the bike you have is too small, your favorite shoes hurt now as you’ve grown and so you have to buy something new and let go of the old. We grew physically bigger. And that old thing, or way, you can be very attached to it, it was with you for a good while, it got you to a point and there’s alot of feeling there, but growth requires letting go of somethings we like or that we now come to a point where it limits us.
When you’ve grown up doing something a certain way and you like that, but it just doesn’t work anymore, you have to shift. Either you do it consciously or the Universe takes care of it, or you suffer a great deal because of the attachments when things get removed. Or maybe it’s just some part of the past we need to grow out of, for good, for our well being, for our health, for our self-respect..
Excessive Behaviors
Escapism. Indulging. More. More spending. Excessive pleasures. More eating. More drinking. Gluttony. Excessiveness. Addictions. Going beyond what is… enough. No boundaries in such matters. It seems satisfying and yet, it’s not satisfying enough. Are these things healthy for you? Are these things reaching an extreme point that they are keeping you from responsibilities? We have guilty pleasures, for some of us it’s small little things and not much of a problem. For others they are things that seem to take over for a longer time span in bigger ways and need a shift.
We can feel guilty, horrible, or even punish ourselves after the binging, over doing, escaping, the excessive pleasures and such previously mentioned, the “soothing” in ways that have been overdone. Religion can come into play, we can feel ashamed of some of the things we do. Behaviors we do that are self-soothing, that we feel we need more of, might need a looking into and adjustment. Have faith in the process and in nature's timing along with a plan, other people's help, and a healthy dose of self-love and compassion can carry you further. “It’s the darkest before the dawn.” as the saying goes. It is the time with this New Moon, that our two Luminaries are just slightly ahead of the Winter Solstice, the darkest time, and the birth of light is on the horizon. Awakening. Brighter. More…more…more… light. Over time it grows.
Some of these excessiveness, or over indulging episodes, can be the flags of what needs to change in the upcoming year. Why do we feel we need these things in such a way? We grow out of old dependencies, or not, but we do have the capacity to choose. With life there are also new ways to cope, or have a broader understanding consciously, as to why we do the things we do and if we really need them, or want to grow out of them, or come up with healthier ways to cope that fit us and support us in new ways as we grow older..
As we take notice and see these things, if we are bold enough, we can recognize parts within ourselves that need changes, or we can now understand that such a monumental inner shift needs to be initiated as a new beginning in some way from the way we used to do things. Changing the inner world changes the outer. Initiate to commit to new nourishing elements for yourself no matter how small. Be a nourishing inspiration to someone through that path.
Beyond the comfortable easy “Starter” phase.
Sometimes when we learn things, we use a simplified, “beginners” or smaller version of something until we get really good at that thing, it prepares us for the real thing. You can learn guitar on a smaller scale beginner's guitar, you can learn to drive on a go-cart, you can learn to swim in a small shallow end of a pool. When we get really good at something we feel good about ourselves and we get good feedback and recognition and attention from others and we don’t necessarily recognize the limitation it would keep us at if we just stayed with what we learned on.
Then, we gain confidence and level up. We give up the familiar and venture into something new but now with enough experience to swim into another area of the pool. We understand what to do and how to do it, yet you’re doing something new and in a new environment, it’s an adventure, it’s exciting while also a little scary and unfamiliar, still attached to the ways of the beginners version that you were so good at and loved.
The Sagittarius “Quest” happens when we leave a familiar place with purpose and a bit of excitement in a way that we know somehow will open our experience wider and have bigger meaning. And when I say this, I mean the way we are inside our heads as well, from inside, our actions and motivations. When you have purpose and are confident in what you do or want, you don’t need outside permission, validation, attention, recognition, applause, you just go for it.
Alot of unconscious behaviors can be limiting us in some way rather than nurturing our growth. We grow into and out of aspects of ourselves many times throughout our lifetime’s Journey.
Authorities & Control. Immigrants and Multiculturalism
Also with this particular planetary current New Moon energy, when we're not paying conscious attention to these things, we can notice them more outside us like in the government or some authority, or our parents, or teachers. Strict. It’s all the “You must” “Do this” “You can’t” “Stop it” “Sit down” “Shame on you” “Gimme that” “These are the rules” kinds of things. Outer elements, don’t want you to grow sometimes, they’ll put a hand up at you somehow, or they want you to grow in a direction they want you to, or they over protect creating a barrier for you. A dominating authority says, ”nope.” They “keep you” contained. Sagittarius does not like containment. Inside, our ego can also be feeding such limiting inner thoughts. Self-limiting thoughts.
In the US at least, and in many places all over the world internationally, there’s alot of attention on the authoritative governmental dominance over diversity, immigrants with overreaching control and racism. Also, with grand lower expressions of Sag comes the “I’m right and you are wrong” arguments, especially in relation to religious views, that gather masses to separate into sides which can be experienced as hard-lined fanatical preached ideologies and deadly violence.
You know how you feel when someone opposes what you believe, right? It can be uncomfortable, or you can feel angry or “right” or feel against another or need to prove yourself. Times like these can actually give you bigger perspective and greater understanding of another or you might learn something you may never had perhaps. Remember that people believe in different things whether they are true or not but people build cultures and lifestyles around such things and that may be very different from yours or what you believe in.
Also with this energy comes big exaggerations which the mass public gloms onto salivating as truth. “I heard the President say it was so!” “I saw that (A.I. generated) picture, that’s proof!” When the government, social media, or internet tells you something is “true,” now we are like,....”umm…wait a minute here” scratching our heads, not exactly knowing what to believe or we intuitively know what’s right but are seeing and hearing the opposite. It can be confusing sometimes as to what is true and real.
Travel Expands You
What kind of systematic, step by step way, can we apply and commit to, in action, with self-discipline over time, to move into new ways for ourselves bit by bit. Consistent effort over time does add up. Not only can that start us on a path but, coming back down from the mountaintop is also part of the journey too. There comes a time when you decide to return. When we come back down the mountain, we not only come back with something, we are changed people in some capacity and we share that with society, or we see the world in a wider whole new way than we had previously. Travel is a life teacher naturally through experience. Our life philosophy can change.
Travel can do that. Especially world travel, being in new environments of different cultures, eating new foods, talking with locals, learning about others beliefs, and the openness of diversity that naturally arises, as well as a broader self-education, that’s bigger than a school book or classroom. Travel is its own class-world! Bigger, broader, mind expanding experiences and thoughts arise on the horizon as you step into the adventure of travel. We expand the element of “me” as we see “other” as something that includes way, way, more than just me, my views, my beliefs, my opinions, my world.
“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” - Anthony Bourdain
This energy supports traveling home, or returning back to your hometown or country. At this time of year it’s what many of us do for the holidays.
Neptune & Saturn coming to the end of the Zodiac
In the “outer” sphere of life, around this time through the beginning of the year, as Neptune and Saturn join to cross the final degrees of the Zodiac into new cycles, we can be a witness to things that create a large sense of compassion, a larger sense of love, things that we are all affected by in some way by loss and sacrifice. Big areas of society can be affected in ways that bring these sorts of feelings up for the masses. Endings and dissolving of long standing structures and monumental historical things can fall away into the sea of the past, and with it chaos, or sadness, awareness of attachments, fear, and a void of new openness for something new to take its place can be in the works. Things that require us to turn inward and wonder or question the meaning of your life. Tap into your faith or personal spirituality with Sagittarian optimism and wisdom through some of these times. Recognize your abundances and be generous in ways in which you can inspire and help others in the process.
3IAtlas
Finally, another interesting thing at this time is that on the 19th of December, the interstellar comet 3I Atlas makes its closest approach to Earth. It comes to light in our eyes at its biggest visual moment for us. It comes from beyond our Solar System, from another star system, its Extrasolar, “extra” being the key Sagittarius word here.. Talk about a long distance Sagittarius journey! It matches with the Sag themes. It’s a foreigner, an immigrant. It shot out on its own Quest, a Journey on its own. It travels and endures distances. It gets a lot of exaggerated attention. We could gather information from it that expands our knowing of the Universe.
Learn from things that are foreign to you, expand in new knowledge. Be open minded about new things.
This was a long, expanded, philosophical post full of all sorts of meaning (hopefully), that’s Sag!
Have a good Journey and happy holidays!
